Practice Improvement - Safe Medical Care

CMPA

Overview

Overview: This session will highlight key issues for physicians related to the use of email and social media in their practice regarding advantages, opportunities and potential medical legal risks. Although email use between patients and physicians has some advantages, physicians need to be aware of the risks, and consider precautions to help mitigate their risks. As the use of social media grows exponentially, physicians have an opportunity to leverage this powerful platform for improving healthcare decisions, sharing knowledge and promotion of adherence to healthy lifestyles. This session will review the issues you need to know about to better manage e-communications both professionally and personally.

Objectives

As a result of attending this session, participants will be able to:

  • Identify 3 potential medical-legal risks when using e-communications
  • Understand physician obligations regarding maintaining confidentiality, e-privacy governance, and security
  • Identify 2 ways to leverage social media to increase patient engagement
  • Commit to 1 new strategy for using e-communication wisely
